Congress finalises Lok Sabha tickets for at least 12 seats

The Congress party seems to have finalised candidates for at least dozen seats in Madhya Pradesh for Lok Sabha polls. As per the wishes of former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia not to field his wife Priyadarshini Raje in the election, the Congress party has not finalised her name in the list.

The party is expected to release its list of over a dozen candidates soon. The names which have been finalised include Jyotiaditya Scindia from Guna, Ajay Singh from Sidhi, Nakul Nath from Chhindwara, Arun Yadav from Khandwa, Vivek Takha from Jabalpur, Prabhu Singh from Sagar, Ramniwas Rawat from Morena, Prahlad Tipania from Dewas and Rajaram Tripathi from Satna. Name of Scindia’s PA PS Parashar was also making rounds for Morena.

The Central Election Committee which met till late evening in New Delhi has finalised close to 15 names, claimed sources.

The CEC emphasised on the fact that all party seniors should contest polls and relatives of party leaders should not be offered tickets.

The candidature on seats including Indore, Vidisha, Dhar, Rewa and Gwalior has been kept on hold for the time being. Both the Congress and BJP are in a fix on nominating candidate in Gwalior which primarily undergoes elections under the shadow of Gwalior fort.

Sources in Congress have claimed that Jyotiraditya Scindia who is the general secretary in charge of West UP has told the party that he would be busy in UP so he does not wish to field his wife Priyadarshini Raje in Lok Sabha polls.

It was widely expected that if Scindia continues to file nomination from Guna seat where he is the sitting MP, his wife—Priyadarshini Raje, could be nominated from Gwalior.

Even Chief Minister Kamal Nath had suggested Scindia that he should let his wife contest Lok Sabha poll this time.

Scindia himself had fuelled speculations of his wife contesting poll recently when he during a public meeting had claimed that Congress after assuming power would clear the women reservation bill and it may possible I would be required to come in front of the public as husband of an MP.
