Nadal withdrew from US Open

New York : Spain’s Tennis star Rafael Nadal withdrew from the US Open as the Spaniard continues his battle with knee tendinitis. Citing left knee tendinitis, the third-ranked Nadal hasn’t played a match since June 28, when he was upset in the second round of Wimbledon by 100th-ranked

“Rafa has informed us that he will not be ready to compete at the US Open this year and has withdrawn from the tournament,” read a statement from tournament director David Brewer.

“We hope to see him back on the court soon and look forward to his return to New York next year.”

Nadal also pulled out of the London Olympics and a hard-court tuneup tournament in Cincinnati.The Spaniard won the 2010 US Open to complete a career Grand Slam and was the runner-up to Novak Djokovic last year.

The Spaniard won the title in 2009 and played the final last year against Novak Djokovic.

The US Open, the final Grand Slam of the season, starts on August 27.
