Chhattisgarh will vaccinate 10K health workers on day-1

On day one, Chhattisgarh will target to vaccinate 10,000 health workers against Covid-19 against a registered 2.67 lakh, Health and Family Welfare Minister T.S. Singh Deo announced on Monday.

The remaining will be vaccinated based on the vaccines provided by the Central government, Singh Deo told the media.

He said that on the first day vaccination will be done at 99 centres including six medical colleges out of the existing 1,349 centres in 28 districts of the state. The vaccine should reach by January 13.

He said as per agreement reached, each vaccine has been fixed at Rs 200 per dose. The Central government is bearing the cost of the first phase of vaccination.

Deo added that being a global pandemic, the Centre should bear the total cost of vaccination in the country. States like Kerala and West Bengal have decided to provide the vaccine free of cost.

On the issue of Covaxin, he reiterated his stand that until the total trial is over, it should not be used. The government has kept the vaccine for only emergency use. “I would prefer Covaxin for vaccination on completion of trials.”

He added that the long-term effectiveness of the vaccine will be known after the vaccination and further studies. Pfizer vaccine has shown some side effects on the face, he said.

Requests for providing air ambulance in remote areas have been sought from the Central government mainly in inaccessible areas in case of any adverse event following immunization is reported, Singh Deo said.
