Kyrgyz Interim Govt Pledges to Punish those Responsible for Jalalabad Clashes

The interim government in Kyrgyzstan has pledged to bring to book those who are responsible for deadly clashes Jalalabad, reported BBC.

In Friday’s clashes, at least two persons were killed and nearly 60 others injured as supporters of the interim authorities and backers of ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev indulged in violence, worst since Bakiyev was deposed last month.

Deputy leader Azimbek Beknazarov said that Bakiyev’s allies would be closely monitored, report said.

Escorted by a dozen armed body guards, Beknazarov arrived in Jalalabad’s central square and addressed a group of people assembled in front of the regional government headquarters, the place where clashes took place, said report.

He said that the interim government was keeping a close eye on the main allies of the ousted president, report said.

He also said that many people were now armed and as many as 2,000 weapons were in circulation.
