Iraqi Shoe Thrower Targets Iraqi Shoe Thrower in Paris
Iraqi journalist Muntazar-al-Zaidi is back in the international headlines after the notorious shoe-thrower, who targeted then US President George Bush with his footwear, found himself at the wrong end of a flying shoe at a Paris press conference.
Zaidi was speaking at a press conference to promote his campaign for victims of the Iraq war when a man threw a shoe at him.
Zaidi, who ducked to avoid the shoe, later said that the man had satolen his technique.
Media reports identified the loatest edition of the ‘shoe-thrower’ as an exiled Iraqi journalist who accused Zaidi of siding with a dictatorship.
Zaidi, a reporter for Cairo-based al-Baghdadiya TV, was originally sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting a head of state. The sentence was later reduced and he was released in September.
