Preliminary report of damage until next week

Central Study Team apprised CM Nath of damage caused by excessive rains

The Chief Minister Kamal Nath was met by the Central Study Team at Mantralaya today. The team is on a visit to assess the damage in affected areas caused by excessive rain and flood in the state. CM Nath
was informed by the central team on the initial status of the damage. The study team will prepare a preliminary report of the damage by next week. The final report will be prepared after receiving a memorandum
for assistance from the state.
The Chief Minister told the study team that the entire state has suffered heavy loss except in Vindhya region. The Chief Minister said that health related activities will also need to be initiated as soon as rains stop.
He said, he himself will visit the affected areas and take stock of the situation.
The study team told the Chief Minister that 3 teams had been formed to study the damage. These teams visited the villages affected by the excessive rains in Mandsaur, Agar Malwa, Raisen, Rajgarh and Vidisha
districts and assessed the damage. According to the assessment, the crops of soybean and urad have been affected more. Slopes, small bridges and culverts have washed away in excessive rains and many villages
have cut off from the main roads. Traffic had been badly hit by the rains.
The Central Study Team was consisted of the Joint Secretary of the National Disaster Management Authority- New Delhi, Sandeep Poundarik, Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Rural Development- Government of
India K.M. Singh, Director of Ministry of Water Resources Dr. Manoj Ponikar, Director of Ministry of Agriculture Dr. A. K. Tiwari, Director of Ministry of Finance Amarnath Singh and Assistant Director of
Ministry of Energy Sumit Goyal.
The Chief Secretary S.R. Mohanty, Principal Secretary to CM Ashok Varnwal, Principal Secretary Revenue Manish Rastogi were present.
