Man attacked and killed by bear in Bhopal district

A 55-year-old man was attacked and killed by a bear at Kekadia village, the bear was dragging the body in the forest, when people chased it by throwing sticks and stones it left the spot.

The incident occured on Sunday morning. Village elder Chhaganlal (55) had gone to the forest for defecation. Meanwhile, the bear attacked from behind. People who reached the spot informed the forest department. The elderly was taken to the hospital in an injured condition. He died before reaching the hospital.

When the bear attacked, the villagers reached after hearing the noise. They chased the bear away with sticks.

Bhopal Forest Division SDO RS Bhadoria told that the search for the bear is in the forest. The forest staff has advised the villagers to be alert. There is panic among the villagers due to the incident. Financial assistance of Rs 8 lakh has been approved for the relatives of the elderly. Out of this, Rs 10,000 was given in cash. The remaining amount will be given soon. Earlier, bears have attacked in rural areas around Bhopal.

The Forest Department team had registered a case against Chhaganlal in December 2019 under the Wildlife Protection Act. Chhaganlal had set a noose in the field to hunt the tiger. The tiger was trapped in it, but the tiger escaped by breaking the noose. Forest staff had registered a case against Chhagan on 10 December 2019.

Sarpanch Dalchand of the village told that in Kekadia and its surrounding areas, cattle are being attacked continuously by forest animals. Apart from tiger attacks here, bears are also seen many times.
