Gunmen kill 27 in raids on west Iraq checkpoints

IRAQ: The 27 members of security forces are killed by the attack of Gunmen disguised as police. The attack bears the hall mark of al Qaeda said authorities.

The attack was happened in Anbar, which was considered to be the most violent province of Iraq. It raises concerns that Iraq’s al Qaeda once again regaining the foothold after US troops was withdrawn last December.

Anabar was entirely under the control of al Qaeda during the period of insurgency from 2005-07 and defeated by the local tribesman and US forces. A local spokes person Mohammad Fathi said that the attack bores “the finger prints of al Qaeda”.

The police sources said that “The gunmen used security vehicles and from 2:00am (2300 GMT) until 3:30am they carried out attacks on checkpoints in central Haditha and the nearby town of Barwana,” The government’s spokes person Fathi said that the attackers arrived at check points with fake arrest cards and executed the guards after confiscating their mobile phones.
