Over 39, 000 meritorious students get laptops worth Rs 75 crore

Bhopal. Laptops worth Rs 75.28 crore have been distributed as a reward in the last six years to 39 thousand 607 meritorious students for performing excellently in class XII. The scheme was introduced on the initiative by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Performance of the students is increasing every year after introduction of Meritorious Student Promotion Scheme. The number of meritorious students was 472 in the year 2009-10 which now has gone up to 17 thousand 896.

9267 students of government schools and 8629 students of private schools have got laptops under the scheme.  Their parents have appreciated this scheme of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. There is a great enthusiasm in students also.  The criteria of 85 percent marks to be scored in the examination has been reduced to 75 percent marks for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students under the scheme. And, because of this, 7420 students got laptops.

Development of educational infrastructure

School buildings are being constructed in a big number in the State. Toilets were constructed in schools. Free books are being distributed to all students.  Thirty-type scholarships, related with eight departments, have been provided online to 85 lakh eligible students.

First time, over 1000 high schools are being opened in a year to strengthen educational infrastructure.  Beside this 100 high schools are being upgraded in higher secondary schools. Power supply will be made to all high school and higher secondary schools this year.

Educational quality

To improve quality of education, continue and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) system is being introduced in school education in class IX and XI on the line of the CBSE. Computers will be provided to 2000 schools. It will help students to get computer education from the beginning. As many as 20,000 teachers will be imparted training for this.

Facilities for students

All the students, whose village has not government school, will get free bicycles. Bicycles will be purchased and provided to more than 4 lakh students of class IX this year. Around 40,000 contractual teachers will be recruited this year.

Indore division ahead

3118 students of Indore division – the highest in the State, were provided laptops this year, followed by 2819 students of Bhopal. Further division wise break-up of meritorious student is as follow: 2134 students of Ujjain, 2642 students of  Jabalpur, 2122 students of Sagar, 932 students of Chambal division, 1540 students of Gwalior and 889 students of Hoshangabad, 1211 students of Rewa and 489 students of Shahdol division.  Rs 44 crore 74 lakh were direct deposited in bank accounts of 17 thousand 896 meritorious students.

In the first year of the scheme in 2009-10, there were 473 meritorious students rewarded with laptops. The figures of the students were 743 in 2010-11, 1072 in the 2011-12, 2073 in 2012-13. The government decided to include students of private schools too in the scheme in the year 2013-14 and the number of meritorious student reached 7751 in the year 2013-14 and 10072 in the year 2014-15.

A new scheme Chief Minister Meritorious Student Assistance is being introduced on the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
