Gaddafi appeared on state Television

TRIPOLI: On Tuesday Muammar Gaddafi Libyan leader appeared on state television signaling his defiance and saying he had not fled a revolt against his 41-year rule.

Gaddafi said, under a large umbrella, leaning out of the front seat of a van, “I want to show that I’m in Tripoli and not in Venezuela. Do not believe the channels belonging to stray dogs.”

“I wanted to say something to the youths at Green Square (in Tripoli) and stay up late with them but it started raining. Thank God, it’s a good thing,” said Gaddafi.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it was “time to stop this unacceptable bloodshed” in Libya.

Libyan forces loyal to Gaddafi have fought an increasingly bloody battle to keep the veteran leader in power with residents reporting gunfire in parts of the capital Tripoli and one political activist saying warplanes had bombed the city.

Many protesters have been killed by security forces till date, human rights groups and witnesses said, prompting widespread condemnation from world leaders.
