Forensic Tests on Victims of Saturday’s Polish Plane Crash Completed: Russia

The Russian Health Ministry has said that forensic tests on the victims of the crash of the Polish president’s plane that occurred on Saturday near Smolensk have been completed, said media reports.

“The head of the ministry Tatiana Golikova met (Polish) Health Minister Ewa Kopacz and pronounced all forensic tests to be complete,” a statement was quoted as saying.

It may be mentioned that the Soviet-made TU-154 with President Lech Kaczynski on board rammed into the top of trees as it tried to land at a Smolensk airport in the west of Russia in thick fog on Saturday, killing all 96 persons aboard.

Though majority of the corpses have already been removed from the rubbles and sent to Moscow but investigators from Russia and Poland would carry on search for remains today, reports said.

The President’s body has been identified and flown to Warsaw where it will lie in state for several days until the burial.
