Maksi Returning to Normalcy

With relaxation in curfew, Maksi town in Shajapur district is returning to normalcy, said police.

An indefinite curfew was imposed in the town following a clash between two groups over a cricket match last week. It was relaxed on Monday from 0900 hrs to 1700 hrs. The same relaxation continues on Tuesday.

“Curfew has been relaxed since 9.00 am Tuesday and the relaxation will continue up to 7 pm if no untoward incident occurs,” Shajapur District Collector R.K. Sharma was quoted as saying by IANS.

“No untoward incident was reported from anywhere so far. People are purchasing essential items while the administration is monitoring sensitive areas where armed police personnel are stationed. Curfew will be again in force from 7 pm to 9 am though we may consider further relaxation tomorrow (Wednesday), depending on the situation,” he said.

In a violent dispute over a cricket match on Friday, a 22-year-old man was killed in firing while six others were injured. Swinging into action, district administration firm imposed section 144 to ban assembly of five or more people at a public place and later clamped curfew in the town.

“A compensation of Rs1 lakh has been sanctioned for the family of the deceased youth while cases have been registered against warring parties on the basis of complaints filed by them,” Sharma said.

Police said that nearly 25 people have been arrested in the case.
