Ban ki moon calls for return to democratic rule in thailand

United Nations: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday expressed serious concern over the military coup in Thailand and called for a prompt return to civilian and democratic rule in the country.
The Thai military on Thursday staged a coup, taking full control of the country just two days after declaring martial law.
Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was removed from office last week by the Constitutional Court, resulting in tensions in the country.

Ban urged all parties to work together constructively, refrain from violence and respect human rights.

This is the second time in eight years that the military has taken over in Thailand.

The last coup was in 2006 and was followed by more than a year of military rule.
