Aftershock felt in earthquake-hit Nepal

Kathmandu: Aftershocks continue to jolt Nepal over a month after the country’s worst quake struck, with fresh tremors felt today. A 4-magnitude aftershock was recorded at 1.55 am, with epicentre at Dhading district, according to the National Seismological Centre, Kathmandu. With this, total number of aftershocks since the April 25 quake has reached 291.

The deadly temblor has triggered a series of aftershocks and has devastated the Himalayan nation, flattening buildings and killing nearly 9,000 people besides hitting the tourism industry hard.

However, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Kripashur Sherpa said yesterday that only 15 percent of tourist destinations in the country have been affected by the earthquake but called on both the government and stakeholders to work together to rebuild infrastructures soon.

“We have also selected 19 ambassadors from Nepal and abroad for effective promotion of tourism products and services in the international market,” he said.
