A.R. Rahman’s fans get disappointed

LOS ANGELES: A.R. Rahman India’s world known composer bagged two Oscar nominations in the original score and original song categories for his work in Danny Boyle’s ‘127 Hours’, but lost out on both the awards and failed to repeat the success of 2009, at the 83rd Academy Awards held on Sunday.

Also India-born film editor Tariq Anwar, nominated for the Oscar in the best editing category for ‘The King’s Speech’. He lost out the award to Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter for ‘The Social Network’.

Rahman lost the Oscar for best original score to composer duo Trent Rezmor and Atticus Ross who won it for ‘The Social Network’; the best original song award went to Randy Newman, who won it for ‘We Belong Together’ in ‘Toy Story 3’.

‘The King’s Speech’ walked away will the top honours – best film, best actor for Colin Firth, best director for Tom Hooper and best screenwriter David Seidler.

Fans of Rahman hoping to see him getting at least one Oscar, but it did not happen.

However India’s first Oscar was brought by A R Rahman, he brought two golden statuettes in 2009 for best score and best song in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. But this time it is hard luck for India again.
