Rajasthan Govt. Orders Tandon’s Arrest

Under mounting media pressure, Rajasthan government on Wednesday asked the Special Operation Group of the state police to arrest Madhukar Tandon, a former Deputy Inspector General of police, who has been on the run since he allegedly raped a tribal woman 13 years ago.

“The SOG has been assigned the task to arrest Madhukar Tandon. The crime branch was already investigating the case, but he could not be arrested as he was absconding,” said state Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal while announcing the decision to the media in Jaipur.

He said the government would also go into how Tandon managed to hoodwink the law and also and identify those responsible for it.

“This is a serious matter. The accused has not been arrested since 1997…Those who had information about him, why didn’t they do anything…we will go into the matter. If anybody tries to disturb the law and order, police will take action,” he added.

Buried for over a decade the rape incident recently came back into the media glare.
