11 Killed, 50 Injured as Bomb Targets Shia Muslims in Karachi

Nearly 11 persons were killed as a bomb attack rocked the Pakistani city of Karachi, reported BBC citing hospital officials.

According to report, the attack made by motorcycle bomb targeted a bus which was carrying Shia Muslims to a religious procession.

In the bomb blast, which occurred on the main road of the country’s commercial centre, as many as 50 people were injured, report said.

It may be mentioned that Friday is the last and most important day of the Arbaeen religious festival, 40 days of mourning for the death of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson.

It was yet not confirmed if the bomb rammed into the bus by a suicide bomber or the motorcycle was parked by the side of the road, said report.

Karachi police chief Waseem Ahmad said that it was too soon to say what exactly had happened.

“We are examining the site. We are collecting the evidence. We are taking witness statements and then we will say something concrete,” he was quoted as saying.
