Yes I went into depression, admits Comedy King Kapil Sharma

Mumbai: Comedy King Kapil Sharma spoke to India Today and bared his heart revealing many things including how he slipped into depression, his infamous fight with Sunil Grover and his alleged standoff with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

Speaking on depression, Kapil Sharma said, “I actually went into depression. I had stopped drinking to get fit for the film. I lost 12 kg. And if you drink after losing weight, even two pegs acts like five.  I love my team, I get anxious when I don’t see them. I cannot detach myself. I went into depression.”

On his rift with SRK and did he really ask the superstar to leave his set, he said: “I was very busy with my show and my film when there were rumours that I asked SRK to leave my set. I read all the articles after two months of finishing the film. I don’t understand where all this comes from. I always wonder who’s the unnamed source. SRK was about to come at 7pm. I was there on the sets by 2pm. At around 6pm, I was nervous and sweating. I knew, I couldn’t shoot. I couldn’t go on stage. SRK came to meet me again. He asked me to take rest.”

“Thereafter, I took a break and went to Bangalore for treatment. And later I started drinking again, and locked myself in the room and only drank. It’ll still take me 3 months to recover,” he added further.

“Yes, something happened but a lot was written and said about it.  When I came back from Australia, I was upset. I’m not God, when I’m upset..I’m from Punjab…I get carried away,” said Kapil on his infamous fight with Sunil Grover. “I had so much to do, including managing my team. I didn’t fight with Sunil (Grover). I loved working with him. While working on Comedy Circus, I used to tell the producers to get Sunil.”

“The day we reached Australia I was very upset. I was also shooting for the film, a person in the film’s cast had passed away.  I had shot for the scene the previous night and the next day he died. On top of that my shoots were getting delayed due to fog. I wanted to cancel the Australia tour but the tickets were sold.”

“When the show was about to start, a girl came to me crying, complaining about a boy, I yelled at the boy – who’s my childhood friend. Chandan (Prabhakar). No one writes about him, because he’s not that well-known. I had to go on stage and I needed to remain calm.”

“Sunil was not involved (with my fight with Chandan). He was just concerned. He’s my favourite co-artist. My favourite on the show. I’m sure he’s listening, I want to tell him I love you and I miss you.”
