No doubt Rajesh Khanna was the reigning superstar, but I didn’t give him any special bhaav as a co-actor: Hema Malini

Mumbai: Opening up about her equation with late actor Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini revealed to an English daily that the biggest superstar of yesteryears would behave strangely with her.
“I don’t know what the issue was but something was amiss with Rajesh Khanna. He would behave strangely with me in the initial days,” she told the newspaper.
“No doubt he was the reigning superstar and women would adore him for his charm. But I didn’t give him any special bhaav as a co-actor… Rajesh thought that I was arrogant while I thought that he was too full of himself,” she added.
It is no secret that back in the day, Rajesh Khanna was the biggest superstar in Bollywood and the heartthrob of millions. And he had the starry airs to match.
Apparently, during the shooting of their first film together, Andaz, he would reach the sets late and behave unprofessionally, something that irked Hema Malini to no end. Despite the film’s success, producers were skeptical about casting them together because of their friction.
Eventually, Hema Malini and Rajesh Khanna warmed up to each other and went on to do 13 films together, including hits like Prem Nagar (1974).
