Sanjay Dutt got around Rs 10 crore plus a portion of box office profit for sharing his story on celluloid

Mumbai: Rajkumar Hirani brought Sanjay Dutt’s story alive on celluloid in his latest film, Sanju, and the audience is loving it. Ranbir Kapoor has managed to bowl over the critics as well as the audience with his stellar performance in the biopic.
Even after a week of its release, Sanju is running to packed theatres and the footfall is showing no signs of waning. The film has already hit many milestones – Rs 50 crore in two days, Rs 100 crore in three days, Rs 150 crore in five days and Rs 200 crore in a week. It is currently racing towards the Rs 250-crore mark.
If a report in a leading publication is to be believed, Sanjay Dutt cut himself a sweet deal. Not only did the makers have to cough up a huge sum, they also promised the actor a percentage of the profits.
“Sanju didn’t come for free. Sanjay’s team negotiated hard. They finally settled for an outright nine to 10 crore, plus a portion of the box office profit. Only then, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani were given access to the actor’s life,” a source informed the daily.
Talking about why he made a film on Sanjay Dutt’s life, Rajkumar Hirani had told India Today Television, “We are obsessed with great stories… It was purely the greed for great content which drove us to that film.”
