In my own house, people ask, ‘tu shaadi kab kar raha hai?’: Arjun Kapoor on marriage rumours

With Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja tying the knot last year in May, fans were soon speculating about Arjun Kapoor’s wedding especially when rumours about him dating Malaika Arora had cropped up. The actor has been on the receiving end of grapevine information as he talked about being “not single” for the first time on Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan season 6, while he appeared on the couch with Janhvi Kapoor.

While Arjun had earlier talked about the fact that he wanted his sister Anshula to get married before him, in the latest interview he shared spoke about it cryptically. Arjun told Filmfare, “I would like to believe that would be the nice organic thing to do. But, it’s not so easy to pinpoint that.” He further said that she does believe the institution of marriage but is currently focussing on work.

“If she likes…I would be very happy. If she says, no, I want to wait for a bit, I’ll be okay. She believes in the institution of marriage and so do I. Despite whatever we’ve seen in our lives, we both have faith that marriage is good. Let her make something out of herself. She’s focusing on her work right now, so I’ve not had the marriage conversation with her,” he said.

While the actor has denied the rumours of getting married anytime soon, he does understand the need of asking given that it is a typical organic Indian question. In fact, he said that people in his house are also asking him when will he get married. He said, “I’m not getting married. I understand why there are speculations. Because in my own house people would ask tu shaadi kab kar raha hai? It’s a very organic Indian question. If you’re with someone for even three days, the marriage question pops up. Shaadi karlo, tumhari umar ho gayi hai, abhi kitna sochoge? 33 for most people in India is great age to get married, but not for me. I still have time. If I’ve not hidden my relationship, why will I hide my marriage yaar?”

Arjun began dating Malaika Arora last year when the two were spotted together at various events. From going on romantic getaways to attending red carpet ceremonies, the couple has been quite open about it lately but when it comes to their marriage, the two have denied it.
