Car Bombing Kills 10 outside Peshawar Cinema

At least ten people were killed and some 70 others were wounded when a deadly car bomb rang through a busy marketplace in Pakistan’s northwestern provincial capital of Peshawar on Friday.

The impact of the blast, outside the Tasvir Mahal cinema, damaged some nearby buildings. Several cars parked outside the cinema were turned into a mangled heap.

Some shops and restaurants in the area were also damaged in the strike.

Though, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, analysts say the venue of the bombing pointed towards radical Islamic outfits, who believe movies to be against the tenets of their religion.

Injuries to any of the cinema audience were not confirmed.

The bombing comes six days after a similar attack killed 11 in an internet café in the city.

Provincial information minister Mian ?Iftikhar Hussain confirmed the deaths in the attack and said the purpose of the violence like the bombing was to terrorise the masses.

Sp-eaking after visiting the wounded at a local hospital Hussain said: “It (the bombing) could be a reaction (to the) Swat operation” and vowed to bring the culprits to book.

The attack came on a day when the UN triggered a Flash Appeal seeking US$ 543 million aid to be spent on the rehabilitation of nearly 1.6 million people displaced by Pakistan’s internal war on terror.
