200 godowns to be built in three years in State

Bhopal:As many as 200 godowns with 1000 metric tonne capacity will be built for increasing storage capacity in the cooperative sector of Madhya Pradesh in the next three years. These godowns will be constructed on cent percent subsidy basis. A sum of Rs. 134 crore has been sanctioned for construction of these warehouses under the National Agriculture Development Scheme.
A sum of Rs. 30 crore has been sanctioned under the scheme in the state this year for construction of 50 godowns. Of this, the Agriculture Department has transferred Rs. 10 crore to the Cooperatives Department.
Directives were given to district collectors for allotting free of cost lands to primary cooperative societies for construction of godowns. So far, process of land allotment has been completed at four places in Ratlam district, 31 in Dewas, 10 in Satna, 18 in Panna, one each place in Tikamgarh, Hoshangabad and Shivpuri districts and two places in Ujjain district.
Cooperatives Minister Shri Gaurishankar Bisen has directed departmental district officers to take effective initiative at collectorate in connection with allotment of land. The State Government has decided to make agriculture profitable and increase storage capacity in the government sector. After completion of the scheme, storage capacity in Madhya Pradesh will go up to two lakh metric tonnes in three years.
