Samsung teases Galaxy Fold in new video; shows off screen durability by bending it 200,000 times

2019 is an important year for Samsung. The company is going all out to reclaim its position as the leader of the smartphone market. For this, it is banking heavily on its flagship devices such as the S10 lineup, and the upcoming Galaxy Fold which if Samsung is to be believed will revolutionise the way we use smartphones.

This foldable display clad smartphone has already been teased by Samsung a number of times. However, many still remain undecided over the device as questions over the durability of the upcoming Galaxy Fold are being raised every day. But now Samsung appears to be taking such questions head-on, and in a recently released teaser has shown off the stringent tests that it is putting the Galaxy Fold units through during the manufacturing stage.

In the teaser video, Samsung explains that it subjects each and every manufactured unit of the Galaxy Fold through several rounds of extensive tests to make sure that the Galaxy Fold is ready for the daily grind when it finally comes to the market. As Samsung reveals, one of these tests is a folding test.

The new video shows each unit of the Galaxy Fold is put through the paces by subjecting it to a week-long stress test during which the phone is folded and unfolded 200,000 times (or around five years of use, if used 100 times a day) by a machine. While this may seem like a bit too much to us, Samsung thinks it as “vital to ensure the durability of the device’s hinged design and Infinity Flex Display.”

For the uninitiated, the Samsung Galaxy Fold will come with a 7.3-inch foldable screen which when folded inwards will turn the phone into a 4.6-inch display device fit for conventional single hand use. Apart from this, not much is known about the Galaxy fold’s internals.

However, rumours say the phone will arrive with a triple rear-camera setup and two battery setup with 2,190mAh capacity, which will in total provide 4,380mAh battery to the Galaxy Fold. The phone is tipped to be priced at approx Rs. 1,82,000 and will be made available in Black and white colour options. Rumours suggest there could be a 5G variant as well which is speculated to debut in South Korean market only.
