Foldable smartphone: Xiaomi might launch the world’s first foldable phone this year; here’s why

Samsung has been, for a long time working on bringing out a foldable smartphone. To reiterate that, images of the Samsung Galaxy Flex or the F series had viral before and now recently a video by noted tipster Evan Blass has gone viral which showed a foldable smartphone-cum-tablet by Xiaomi. This could mean that 2019 may be the year where we may see smartphones being revolutionised in a different way altogether. Bezel-less screen and 8 – 10GB of RAM with a powerful processor became a norm in 2018 in the smartphone mid-range to the top-spec segment. This year we might see World’s first foldable smartphone or dual-screen device by Xiaomi.

The video revealed the phone which gave us a glimpse as to how a foldable smartphone may work or look like. Evan Blass alongside the video in the tweet wrote, “Can’t speak to the authenticity of this video or device, but it’s allegedly made by Xiaomi, I’m told. A hot new phone, or gadget porn deep fake? The caption of the tweet gave us a hint that the phone might be manufactured by Xiaomi but it did not give us the clarity as to which model it can be or whether it is Xiaomi itself or not. As the icons shown in the phone displayed Xiaomi ‘s MIUI which is the same MIUI used by other smartphone makers also.

Though in July last year, South Korean ET News also hinted that Xiaomi is developing a smartphone which folds outwards and might be unveiled in 2019. Having stated that it gives us the impression that we might see World’s first foldable smartphone by Xiaomi in the Indian market soon.

But, the real question lies in the fact whether Samsung or Xiaomi will be able to implement the idea of a foldable screen or dual display or not? Well, that time will tell! As of now, we wait to see the rumours becoming a reality.
