New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the conviction of former DGP of Haryana Police SPS Rathore in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case.
The court confirmed Rathore’s conviction but also said he will not have to spend any more jail time.

14-year-old Ruchika Girhotra was molested by SPS Rathore in 1990 and later she had committed suicide in 1993 accusing the DGP for harassing her family.

Ruchika and her family made a complaint and after filling complaint they alleged that they were harassed by the former DGP.

On December 22, 2009, after 19 years of the filing of the case, 40 adjournments, and more than 400 hearings, the court finally pronounced Rathore guilty under Section 354 IPC (molestation) and sentenced him to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000.

On November 11, 2010, the Supreme Court granted bail to SPS Rathore on the condition that he will not leave Chandigarh.
