Cong Could have Won 20 Seats, BSP, SP Played Spoiler

Bhopal: Adding to the surprise of Lok Sabha results in MP, the Congress could have done yet better but the three outfits – BSP, SP and RJD – played spoilsport and damaged the prospects of Congress in the state.

According to information based on votes secured by these parties in various constituencies, the BSP alone spoiled prospects of the Congress in 5 seats out a total of 29, as the votes secured by its candidates in these seats were more than the margin of defeat of the Congress candidates.

While in three other seats where votes got by the trio – BSP, SP and RJD – were more than the victory margin of the BJP candidates against the Congress nominees.

It may be mentioned that the Congress won in 12 parliamentary segments this time in comparison to its tally of four in the 2004 polls.

The seats where the BSP alone had damaged the party prospects are Morena, Bhind, Khajuraho, Sidhi and Gwalior while in Balaghat, Indore and Tikamgarh, BSP, SP and RJD together helped to defeat the Congress candidates.

Clearly, the absence of marginal presence of these parties in the state could have taken the tally of the Congress to 20, making it the single largest party in the state.

The above reports bears significance for just few months ago, BJP recorded overwhelming victory in the state in assembly elections.
