Lucknow: Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor who tested positive for coronavirus and attended several gatherings in Lucknow has now sent employees of a bank in panic mode.
Manoj Kumar, head of Lucknow’s Bank of Baroda Latush Red Branch, went to meet Kanika Kapoor at her house two days ago. He was at the singer’s house for about half an hour.
The fact that their branch head met a Covid-19 positive person has spread fear at the bank where employees are worried that they might get infected through Kumar or might have been already.
Despite the bank employees insisting their manager Kumar to go into isolation, he has refused to do so.
Kanika Kapoor was booked for negligence and disobedience to the order issued by a public servant. The FIR was registered at Sarojini Nagar police station on Friday based on a complaint filed by the Lucknow chief medical officer, said Police Commissioner Surjit Pandey.
On Saturday, a fresh case was filed against Kanika Kapoor in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur. The complaint was filed by Advocate Sudhir Ojha in the Muzaffarpur CGM Court.
Before being booked on Friday, she triggered widespread panic in the political corridors. Several political leaders and bureaucrats were also guests at the slew of parties and functions she attended.
Dushyant Singh, who is an MP, and his mother, former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, have both quarantined themselves in their houses and are being tested for coronavirus.
Even as the people who attended the parties where Kanika Kapoor was present are being traced and asked to go under quarantine, several MPs and MLAs have decided to self-isolate as they came in contact with other people who met her at these parties.
BJP MP Varun Gandhi has quarantined himself because he was sitting next to Dushyant Singh in Lok Sabha and had also attended a birthday party together. TMC MP Derek O’Brien sat with him on the standing committee for two days. Apna Dal’s Anupriya Patel and Congress leader Deepender Hooda recently met Dushyant Singh in Delhi.
Aam Adami Party’s Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Singh and Narain Dass Gupta have also put themselves under quarantine.
Apart from Parliament, Dushyant Singh had also attended a breakfast meeting for MPs with President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The president is also being tested for Covid-19.
The panic of coronavirus is not limited to MPs. UP health minister Jai Pratap Singh has also been put under quarantine as he also attended a party where Kanika Kapoor was a guest.
After attending the party, Jai Pratap Singh came in contact with three MLAs, district officials and at least 50 media personnel as he held a press conference in Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) on Thursday. He was in the city to review the quarantine chamber prepared at the Gautam Buddh University.
Jewar BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh has isolated himself after the reports of Kanika Kapoor’s positive result and Jai Pratap Singh’s connection came forward.
UP MLAs Pankaj Singh and Tejpal Nagar have also self-isolated themselves till the Covid-19 test reports of state Health Minister Jai Pratap Singh comes.
