JP Duminy and Hashim Amla to miss limited-overs tour of Australia

SOUTH African batsman JP Duminy has been ruled out of South Africa’s limited-overs tour of Australia because of a shoulder injury.
He is the second experienced batsman to miss the tour starting next month because of injury. Hashim Amla is out because of a finger injury.

Cricket South Africa announced in a statement on Tuesday that Duminy will undergo surgery on his right shoulder after aggravating an old injury during a series against Zimbabwe which ended last weekend.

Coach Ottis Gibson revealed earlier that Amla would also miss the tour of Australia, but indicated that veteran bowlers Dale Steyn and Imran Tahir would make the trip.

They will add to the strike power of fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi.

Duminy and Amla will leave a large gap in South Africa’s batting ranks during the four-match white-ball tour. Duminy made 175 runs at 58.33 in his only ODI series in Australia in 2009.

Amla also performed in that series (259 runs at 51.80) before making an ODI century in Australia in 2014.

Duminy is also set to miss the Mzansi Super League, which starts on November 15. He had been named as a marquee player for the Cape Town Blitz team.

Team manager and doctor Mohammed Moosajee said it was not possible at this stage to estimate how long Duminy would be out of action.

“That is dependent on the results from the surgery,” he said.

South Africa will play three-limited overs internationals and one Twenty20 international in Australia.
