Amit Jogi denies any split in party
Janta Congress Chhattisgarh-Jogi (JCC-J) chief Amit Jogi on Wednesday ruled out a split in the party, citing the anti-defection law which insists on separation by at least one-third of legislature members.
JCC-J MLA from Khairagarh Devwrat Singh has said he was feeling suffocated in the party, which he alleged had become a ‘B’ team of the BJP. He wants to quit, he said.
Jogi said in a statement that two to three MLAs will have to get together to effect a split in the party, which has four members in the Chhattisgarh Assembly.
Commenting on Devwrat Singh’s statement, he said: “We can’t stop anyone to dream like ‘Mungerilal’.” He denied his party was a ‘B’ team of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel denied orchestrating defections from the JCC-J. He said in a statement that the Congress had two-thirds majority and had nothing to do with the goings on the JCC-J.
“If someone is impressed with our working, it is good. We will talk to the Speaker to make separate seating arrangement in the House for those who rebel from JCC-J,” he said.
