Mumbai faces heavy rainfall, water logging; Meteorological Department predicts heavy rain in the next 48 hours

Mumbai: Mumbai witnessed heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorm throughout the Saturday night that continued on Sunday morning. Places like Thane, Ghatkopar, Dadar, Chembur, Kurla, Andheri, Borivali, Bandra and Colaba faced incessant rainfall, media reports said.

Traffic came to a standstill in several areas owing to the downpour.

Low lying areas of Kurla, Dadar, Thane, Sion faced water-logging which affected the traffic for several hours.

Those travelling by local trains on the Central railway line faced a mega block of 6 hours on Sunday between 9:10 am and 3:20 pm.

The power block will be on all six lines between Dombivili and Kalyan as the Central Railway plans to complete the construction of a road overbridge at Thakurli.

Due to the power block, at least 120 trains in the CR are suspended.

Weather forecast for the city predicts thundershowers to intensify leading to some moderate and heavy rainfall during the next 48 hours. As a result, the temperature may dip along with windy weather.

Mumbaikars, however, need to take additional precautions while venturing out near the sea on Sunday as there is a high tide of 4.97 metre at 1.07 pm, which is above the warning level of 4.5 metre. Sunday’s high tide in Mumbai is going to be the highest for the season.
