Aseemanand will be produced to Chief Judicial Magistrate in Panchkula court tomorrow

In the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Panchkula Abhinav on January 15, the Bharat member Swami Aseemanand’s confession statement about his role in the Samjhauta Express blasts will be recorded.

Aseemanand was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Thursday, he will be lodged in Ambala jail.

Again Aseemanand will be produced in the NIA court on January 27. Aseemanand has been in the custody of NIA in connection with the Samjhauta case since December 23.

On Thursday, the NIA moved an application in the court of CJM, Panchkula, seeking permission to get Aseemanand’s confession statement recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC in front of the magistrate. The CJM fixed January 15 as the date for the purpose.

Before moving an application in the CJM’s court, Aseemanand was produced in the NIA court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ritu Garg amid tight police security around 10.45 am. The entire court proceeding, which lasted for 30 minutes, was in-camera.

“The NIA team apprised the court that they did not require Aseemanand, at this stage, for any more questioning. Hence, the court remanded him to judicial custody,” said Aseemanand’s counsel Manbir Singh Rathi.

The blasts in Samjhauta Express took place on February 18, 2007, at Diwana village near Panipat in Haryana, in which 68 people, mostly Pakistan nationals, were killed.
