Kings XI Punjab beat Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets to move into the top four in the points table. KL Rahul (28) and Mandeep Singh (66 not out) gave Kings XI Punjab a good start in their chase of 150. They added 47 for the first wicket before Varun Chakravarthy trapped Rahul lbw. Chris Gayle (51 off 29) arrived and went on a six-hitting spree. Mandeep oozed confidence as well as KXIP coasted towards the target. Both men got fifties as KXIP strolled to an easy eight-wicket win with seven balls to spare.
Earlier, Shubman Gill (57) and Eoin Morgan (40) counter-attacked after Kolkata Knight Riders lost three of their top four inside the first six overs. They added 81 runs in just under eight overs before Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Morgan, caught in the deep at square leg. Chris Jordan bowled Sunil Narine to turn the tables on KKR and put them in a tough position yet again. Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Pat Cummins departed cheaply to leave KKR tottering. Gill got to his fifty but failed to stay on till the end even as Lockie Ferguson hit some boundaries towards the death to carry KKR to 149.
