Shutdown Paralyses Life in Telangana, Protesters Resort to Violence

The two-day shutdown called by TRS and other parties after the Centre put creation of Telangana on backburner has paralysed normal life across the region, with even violence breaking out at some places.

Students and other Telangana supporters took to streets and resorted to pelting stones on buses and shops in Hyderabad and other Telangana districts.

Incidences of violence were reported in Hyderabad, Warangal and other places in the region within hours of Centre’s announcement even police resorted to cane-charge to dispel mob of agitators.

Soon after call of shutdown by TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and other Telangana leaders, several petrol pumps were shut down in the state capital. Long queues were witnessed at the few petrol stations that remained open.

Bus services were suspended in Hyderabad and other Telangana districts by Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) as a result of which hundreds of commuters faced inconvenience.

Incidents of buses and other vehicles being burnt were reported from several places in the city since late last night after the shutdown began.

Centre on Wednesday night said that there was a need to hold wide ranging consultations on the Telangana issue with all political parties and groups in the state.
