No Clue about Missing Iraqi Women who Came for Research in Gujarat
Gujarat Police is clueless about the whereabouts of an Iraqi woman who last month went missing in Ahmedabad after reaching here for a research study.
Huma Younis Fadhil came to the state for a research study programme at the Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute (GCRI) but went untraceable after reaching Ahmedabad city.
In an e-mail to GCRI on August 20, she said that she is a teaching assistant at the College of Science, Baghdad University. She requested for research study in virus diagnostics for not more than six months as her husband, too, was on a study course in India.
Her admission was approved by GCRI on September 9. Huma arrived in Ahmedabad on November 15 and visited GCRI on November 16.
“She probably might have acquired a visa based on our letter. The institute asked her to complete the necessary formalities, which she did not do. We sent her a mail, asking her to pay the fees or the admission will be cancelled,” said Director of GCRI Dr Pankaj Shah.
However, there is no record of Huma’s arrival at the airport immigration counter in Ahmedabad.
Incidentally, last week, the immigration office had asked the police to register a case of bribery against two police personnel posted at the airport counter.
