Whenever Virat Kohli does well, I send him a text: Sunriser Hyderabad’s Shreevats Goswami

Shreevats Goswami, who is currently plying trade with Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Sunrisers Hyderabad, has said that he is still in touch with Virat Kohli. Goswami and Kohli were part of the India Under-19 squad which lifted the U-19 World Cup in 2008. Goswami, who is yet to appear for SRH in IPL 2019, has said that he is delighted that everyone from that U-19 side is making a name for themselves while adding that the best thing about that team is that all of them are still friends.

Goswami acknowledged the fact that everyone from the same batch cannot make it to the senior squad together as there are so many people playing cricket in India. The wicketkeeper-batsman added that he sends a text message to Kohli whenever he does well for India while adding that whenever they meet, they always meet nicely.

“The best thing about that team is that everyone is playing. Everyone has made a name for themselves somewhere or the other. All eleven cannot play for the country from the same batch. It’s difficult. There are so many people playing cricket in India. I think the best thing about that team is that we all are still friends,” Goswami told Times of India.

Manish Pandey is in my team (SRH), Siddharth (Kaul) we play together. Three of us are in Hyderabad. I am in touch with Virat. Whenever he does well I send him a text. Whenever we meet we meet nicely. The best thing about that batch was and is our friendship,” Shreevats Goswami added.

Goswami, who has just 293 runs to his account in 29 IPL matches, has failed to grab the eyeballs with the bat. The 29-year-old is regarded as a talented glovesman but his constant failure with the bat in the cash-rich tournament has limited his appearances for SRH. He is yet to receive a call-up in the playing XI in the ongoing IPL 2019. In IPL 2018, Goswami had notched up just 52 runs in six matches before getting dropped from the side.

SRH’s current wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow is expected to leave the ongoing IPL 2019 soon due to England’s impending preparatory camp for the World Cup 2019, which means Goswami might have a chance to put an impressive show with the bat. However, Goswami’s competition is a strong one as Wriddhiman Saha is also waiting for his chance to take a place in SRH’s playing XI.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday (April 14).
