BJP’s national executive meet starts today in Panaji

New Delhi/Panaji: Most of the party’s top brass have arrived at Panaji, as BJP’s crucial National Executive meet begins in Goa.. The meet being held less than a year ahead of 2014 general elections, is set to discuss the saffron party’s poll strategy to ensure NDA’s return to power after the gap of a decade.
Meanwhile, amid growing clamour for declaring Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as BJP’s campaign committee head, party leader Yashwant Sinha had said a decision on the leadership issue is unlikely at the Goa National Executive meet as it is too large a body to discuss it. He said such a decision will be taken by the Parliamentary Board.
“The National Executive of the BJP is too large as a body to discuss leadership issues… The BJP has already made it very clear that these issues will be decided in the Parliamentary Board,” Sinha said.
Narendra Modi, who is being touted as BJP’s possible prime ministerial candidate, was given a rousing welcome by the party leaders soon after his arrival in Panaji on Friday. He was received by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and other senior party leaders.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar lauded Modi, saying he is one of the most respected and successful BJP Chief Ministers. “Narendra Modi is our most senior and successful Chief Minister. He is quite popular among the people and has become a symbol of corruption-free governance,” said Javadekar.
“Now, what responsibilities he should be given and when he should be given that is a subject for the Parliamentary Board and the party president to decide,” he added.
