Balance between Wildlife Conservation and Development Activities Necessary: CM

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has aid that a balance is necessary between wildlife conservation and development activities in the state, said an official release.

Chouhan made the remarks in a meeting of State Wildlife Board which recommended setting up of National Dinosaur Fossil Park near Bagh in Dhar district.

Over 100 dinosaur eggs, estimated to be 6.5 crore to 7 crore years old, were found in Bagh 2006, in addition to fossilised dinosaur nests.

Besides, the chief minister issued instructions for immediately implementing the recommendation to delink from treasury system the payment against human and cattle deaths and injuries due to wild animals, release said.

When board members, while admiring the efforts for increasing big cat population in the state, told Chouhan of the birth of three tiger cubs in Panna Tiger Reserve, he expressed his happiness over this.

He instructed that board should hold its meetings twice a year positively, said release.

The board also recommended implementation of proposed schemes for white tiger safari-cum-wildlife treatment centre in Mand reserve forest under Satna forest range.

Also, it suggested upgrading, repairing and maintaining existing roads in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Sanjay Gandhi Tiger Reserve, Ratapani Sanctuary and Rani Durgawati Sanctuary to facilitate the residents of forest villages in these areas.

The board recommended construction of road and bridges on Betwa and Jamnuni rivers in Tikamgarh district.

Forest Minister Sartaj Singh and Minister of State for Forests Jaisingh Marawi were also present at the meeting.
