Kalyan Floats Jan Kranti Party on his 76th Birthday

On his 76th birthday, the former BJP leader Kalyan Singh has announced that he will form a new party named as ‘Jan Kranti Pary’ and Rajbir Singh, his son, will be its national president.

Singh said that the party’s agenda will be ‘Hindutva’ and that he has decided to visit Ayodhya tomorrow to have glimpse of Ram Lala and commence his fresh political journey. He would be patron of the new party.

About returning to BJP, he said that his supporters have asked him not to go back to any party. However, Rajbir declined to make a comment on the BJP.

In December 1999, Singh had formed Rashtriya Kranti Party after differences with the BJP and had won four seats in 2001-02 assembly elections.

He forge alliance with Mulayam Singh in August 2003 to form a coalition government.

But he returned to BJP before Lok Sabha election in 2004. He again snapped ties with saffron brigade in January 2009 and contested Lok Sabha elections as SP-supported independent candidate from Etah and won the seat.

But Kalyan-Yadav pact broke down after November 2009 byelections in which SP was badly mauled. Yadav’s daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav was defeated in Firozabad Lok Sabha bypoll by Congress nominee Raj Babbar.
