Raipur local court rejects interim bail pleas of Ajit, Amit Jogi

Raipur local court on Monday rejected the interim bail plea of state’s former chief minister Ajit Jogi and his son Amit Jogi, state president of regional outfit Janta Congress Chhattisgarh — Jogi (JCC-J) in ‘Antagarh Tapes’ case.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Vivek Kumar Verma rejecting the bail plea strongly commented that “as both of them were the ‘main link’ in the alleged bribery case of Antagarh Tapes case and as the matter was pertaining to holding a free and fair polls, which is the very foundation of Indian democratic system, they can’t be compared to other accused.

The court in the judgment further opined that as prosecution had mentioned that both the accused were ‘pivotal in the conspiracy’, the bail could not be granted to them. “In their absence the incident might not had happened and thus their interim bail plea is rejected”, it added.

Notable, the alleged bribery case led to withdrawal of nomination by Congress candidate Manturam Pawar in 2014 by-poll for Antagarh (Scheduled Tribe Reserved) constituency, paving way for almost a complete walkover in favour of BJP candidate Bhojraj Nag.
