Kamal Nath to become strong, Jyotiraditya Scindia to lose clout

BHOPAL: Political activities have intensified with Congress national president Rahul Gandhi announcing his resignation in public. There are several leaders in the state who are close to Rahul.

Rahul’s resignation would have its biggest impact on ex-Union minister of state, Jyotiraditya Scindia. Scinidia is known to be very close to Gandhi family amongst state leaders.

Now, Scindia may appear weak in state politics. There are 7 MLAs who have been appointed ministers in state cabinet through Scindia quota. Scindia is leading contender in the race for state Congress president. It seems difficult for Scindia or his follower to become state president in the wake of Rahul Gandhi quitting the post of Congress president.

Besides Scindia, state ministers like Jitu Patwari, Umang Singhar and Omkar Singh Markam are directly linked to Rahul. Ex-MP Meenakshi Natrajan too is in direct touch with Rahul. All these leaders would now lose their clout in the party.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Kamal Nath would become stronger in party politics with the resignation of Rahul. The senior leaders in the party would now be given more importance. Nath is amongst senior most leaders in Congress and he would get more freedom in taking decisions in the state.

Ex-CM Digvijaya Singh was marginalised in party politics following Rahul’s annoyance. Singh would now become more powerful as he is backed by new incumbent on the post of party president. Nath would also benefit by Singh becoming stronger.

There were several decision which were pending due issue of Rahul’s resignation. Nath would now be able to take decisions. Nath would soon take decisions on cabinet expansions and political appointments in Boards and Corporations.
