Union Civil Aviation Minister, Jyodiraditya Scindia has written a letter to the Union Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting the latter to immediately stop the auction of the railway coaches and engines of the Gwalior- Sheopur narrow gauge trains. Railways had decided to auction the coaches and engines after the closure of the historical narrow gauge train running between Gwalior and Sheopur.

Scindia, in his letter explained that there is a proposal to convert the narrow gauge train into a heritage train to be run in Gwalior city. He added that he has already prepared a concept plan for the same and has forwarded it to the Madhya Pradesh Metro Railway Corporation for a feasibility study. He further pointed out that the feasibility study is in the final stages and requested the Railway Minister to stop the auction till a final decision is taken about the heritage train.

The Union Civil Aviation Minister also pointed out that a Comprehensive Mobility Plan is being prepared in collaboration with the Urban Development Ministry and added that work on it will be completed in four months. Once the plan is accepted routes will be decided for running heritage trains and Metro trains in Gwalior.

Scindia further requested the Railway Minister to keep intact the narrow gauge train that was running between Gwalior and Rairu, along with all its coaches and engines till such time a final decision is taken on the matter.

He signed off the letter by requesting the Railway Minister to give instructions to IRCTC to convert the narrow gauge train into a heritage train.
