‘Rishabh Pant can help you win the World Cup,’ Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly sing praises of the youngster

Rishabh Pant has taken the world of cricket by storm in recent months. His exploits against Australia in the Test series Down Under raised him to prominence in international cricket. His knock of 159 runs in the Sydney Test was praised all around the world as it showed a composed side of Pant. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman is now looked upon as a natural replacement for MS Dhoni in the Indian team. He is now fighting to get a place in the 2019 Cricket World Cup squad for India.

Pant has always been touted as a future star for India. He is still looking to stake a claim for the second wicket-keeper’s role in the Indian team for the World Cup. With some impressive performances in the IPL for Delhi Capitals, his chances of making it to the World Cup would be increased. Even Delhi Capitals advisor Sourav Ganguly and Coach Ricky Ponting agree that Rishabh will be an important part of the Indian side for years to come, while backing him for a spot in the World Cup team.

“For me, Rishabh Pant is the future. He is a hard worker and he will be a huge asset for the country in the years to come. He is an option at the No. 4 spot for Team India,” said Ganguly.

However, Ponting went a step ahead and declared that Pant could be a match-winner for India in the World Cup. “Rishabh is the sort of guy that can help you win the World Cup,” said the legendary Aussie.

His fearless and swashbuckling style of batting has made him an instant star in the eyes of the fans. However, there is still some doubt regarding his temperament as he has failed to produce performances consistently. He recently got an opportunity in the Australia ODI series to showcase his talent ahead of the World Cup. But he failed to capitalize on those chances as his wicket-keeping was heavily criticised by the fans.

Now Pant will look to give his best for the Delhi Capital in their bid to become IPL champions. Delhi play their first match in the league against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium on March 24.
