Centre Give’s Go-ahead to Dalai Lama’s Visit to Arunachal

In spite of sharp objections from Beijing, India has given go-ahead to Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama’s week-long visit to Arunachal Pradesh, which will start from November eight and during which he will visit the 300-year-old Tawang monastery among other places.

T G Rinpoche, the chairperson of the state level reception committee, showed a copy of the External Affairs Ministry’s letter to reporters and said that the ministry had cleared the visit on October 19 and it was conveyed here the next day.

Nevertheless, he clarified that due to the model of code of conduct being in force for the assembly elections, the files comprising the ministry’s clearance were not handed over to Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu.

Also, letters signed by Monica Jain, director of the External Affairs Ministry, directing for adequate security arrangement were sent to the chief secretaries of West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, he said.
