New Delhi: Diesel prices fell on Friday while petrol prices were unchanged in major cities of the country as international crude oil prices are now stabilising after nearly 30 per cent fall in last two months. In the national capital Delhi, petrol is sold at Rs 70.29 per litre, no change compared to yesterday while diesel is sold at Rs 64.57 as against Rs 64.66 on Thursday.

In the country’s business capital Mumbai, petrol is priced at Rs 75.91 and diesel is sold at Rs 67.58, down 8 paise compared to Thursday’s price of Rs 67.66.

In other metro cities like Chennai and Kolkata, petrol is retailing at Rs 72.94 and Rs 72.38 respectively, no change compared to yesterday. Diesel in these cities is priced at Rs 68.18 and Rs 66.33, down 8 paise and 7 paise respectively compared to Thursday’s price.

In Noida also, petrol price remains unchanged at Rs 70.18 while diesel became cheaper by 6 paise to Rs 63.91. It may be noted that in Noida, Greater Noida and Gaziabad prices vary.

Brent crude futures were hovering around $61 per barrel mark on Friday after rising nearly 1 per cent on Thursday. Data released on Thursday showed that inventory declined in the United States as investors began to expect that the global oil market could have a deficit sooner than they had previously thought.

It may be noted that retail fuel prices in India depend on both international oil price and the rupee-dollar exchange rate. While Brent crude is stabilising at around $60 per barrel mark the rupee has fallen to near 72 level.
