4,675 km long roads to be constructed under PMGSY

Bhopal: Union Government has sanctioned 4,675 kilometer long 1,521 new roads costing Rs. 1,780 crore to Madhya Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). Following construction of these roads, 1,600 habitats will be linked by all-weather roads with development block, tehsil and district levels. The Union Government has lauded maintenance of roads under the PMGSY.
Due to the constant efforts of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Union Government has given sanction for maximum roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna to Madhya Pradesh Rural Roads Development Corporation during the current fiscal. Sanction for 9,551 kilometer long 3,653 roads has been received so far this year, which is the highest as compared to other states.
Panchayats & Rural Development Minister Shri Gopal Bhargava informed that intensive efforts are underway for development of transport facilities in remote areas of the state. As a result of the newly sanctioned roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna, 2,025 villages with upto 500 population, 1,278 villages with above 250 population and 340 habitats with below 250 population will be connected with all-weather roads. Shri Bhargava informed that construction of 51 thousand 344 kilometer long 11 thousand 241 roads has been completed so far at a cost of Rs. 514 crore in the state. As a result, 5,948 villages above 1000 population and 6,420 villages upto 500 population have been connected with all-weather roads. Roads under the scheme are also being constructed with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The Madhya Pradesh Rural Roads Development Corporation is carrying out construction of 9,658 kilometer long 1,543 roads with the assistance of ADB. Of them, 7,698 kilometer long 1,543 roads have been constructed. The Union Government had sanctioned Rs. 532 crore 82 lakh for construction of 1,656.7 kilometer long 458 roads in eight districts of the state included in Integrated Action Plan (IAP). These roads are being constructed at a rapid pace. Construction of these roads will provide smooth transport facilities in 996 habitats in IPA districts.
Rural Development minister Shri Gopal Bhargava informed that construction of 96 major bridges has also been given under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna of which 14 bridges have been constructed. Work of maintenance of PMGSY road, which have completed 5 years, has also been taken up for next five years on a big scale. Maintenance of 10 thousand 300 kilometer long roads is being done through agencies. Of these, 4,617 kilometer long old roads have been laid with fresh layer of asphalt.
