BJP attacks Baghel over Jheeram massacre

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday sought the prosecution of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for allegedly keeping evidence related to the Jheeram Valley massacre seven years ago under wrap.

BJP state spokesperson Sachchidanand Upasane said: “All these years the Chief Minister kept saying that evidence is with him. Till date he has not placed it before any probe panel. As concealing evidence is a criminal conduct, a criminal offence should be registered against him.”

Upasane said in a statement: “Congress leaders have always made efforts to blame the BJP for their own failures. The leaders should pressure their own Chief Minister to cooperate and submit the evidence so that Jheeram probe reaches a conclusion.”

“Even after coming to power in last 18 months, the Congress government has not produced the evidences before the judicial probe commission. The state government itself had played spoilsport for the probe by approaching courts over the NIA probe,” he said.

“It is clear that the Congress and state government are not interested in ensuring justice to the families of the martyred leaders but instead playing politics over it,” he said.

A total of 29 persons, including top Congress leaders, were killed by suspected Naxalites at Jheeram Valley. The BJP then ruled Chhattisgarh.

Similarly, a CBI probe was sought over the murder of the mother of the Urban Development and Labour Minister. But till date the government is sitting over it,” he alleged.
