In the capital Bhopal, Shivraj Singh Chauhan inaugurated the State Forest Martyrs Memorial and Chandanpura Nagar Forest on National Forest Martyrs’ Day. Shivraj Singh said, till now an honor fund of Rs 10 lakh is given to the family of the martyr while protecting the forests. That amount will be increased to Rs 25 lakh.

Special arrangements have been made here for the tourists to visit this place. Nagar Van is also special because there is a 12 feet high mesh fencing around it. Due to this, tigers, bears and other wild animals will not be able to enter here. People visiting here will be safe. There are about 300 species of trees and plants in the city forest. Vehicles will not be allowed inside.

DFO Alok Pathak said that it will be opened for the common people after the rains. Those visiting here will have to park their vehicles outside and tour on foot. People will feel like a forest inside Nagar Van. Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah and Minister of State for Forests Rahul Lodhi were present in the program organized at Van Bhawan on Link Road number two.

The relatives of the martyrs were also present in the program.

According to Forest Department officials, people will have to pay an entry fee of around Rs 50 to visit the city forest.

For regular visitors, entry will be available through monthly pass. What the fees will be will be decided soon.

Here people will have to travel on foot. There is also a large colony of termites and ants inside.

Many other attractive parks including Butterfly Park, Autumn Forest will be seen in Nagar Van.

There is also a small pond inside the city forest. Fish and ducks are reared here.

Huts have been made of wood at many places. These places are named after species of trees.

Shivraj Singh said, I also accept what the Forest Minister said regarding uniform and diet allowance. I will hold a meeting with my friends who are forest guards. In the meeting, I will call the mahout, forest guard and one or two of their representatives and discuss in the CM House. Whatever problems arise will be resolved. Shivraj Singh further said, we have preserved 12.30% forests of the country in Madhya Pradesh. We are the Tiger State. We are also Leopard State. We have also saved the crocodile. Vultures are also being protected here. And we are also making Cheetah State. We are the ones who save forests and wild animals. So I congratulate you.

Forest Minister Vijay Shah said in the program, ‘I want that the members of our families who were martyred while protecting the forest. In the year 2008, the amount given to the families of martyrs was increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. God forbid anyone gets martyred in future. Please increase that amount from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Uniform allowance should be increased from Rs 2.5 thousand to Rs 5 thousand. The brothers living in the forest get one thousand rupees for nutritious food. This should also be increased.

It will be prohibited to carry polythene in the city forest. Here you will get a cloth bag by paying the prescribed fee at the gate. On return, the amount can be refunded by returning this bag back to the gate. Visitors will have to go on foot within the city forest. Later bicycles can be made available here.
