Water Festival at Hanuwantiya in Indira Sagar Dam in February: CM

Bhopal. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that maximum opportunity should be given to tourists to participate in attractive tourism fairs in the state. Fairs should be organized as joy festivals. Shri Chouhan was reviewing preparations for mega ‘Water Festival’ to be held at Hanuwantiya in Indira Sagar Dam in February 2016. Minister of State for Tourism Shri Surendra Patwa and Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa were also present on the occasion.

The Chief Minister said that wide publicity should be made about Water Festival. Better transport facilities should be made available for access to venue of the event. He directed to explore possibilities of construction of airstrip. Directives were also given to include regional artistes and talents in cultural programmes to be held during Water Festival.

The Chief Minister was informed that maximum works to convert Hanuwantiya to tourism spot have been completed. Water Festival will be held in February 2016. Fair’s basic theme would be ‘entertainment on water and sand’. Arrangements of over 100 safe luxury tents will be made during festival. Besides, a 60-seater cruise and 30-seater cruise boat will also be available. Cruise excursion will be held from Handiya upto Joga Kila during Water Festival. This 4-hour water journey will be 75 km long. Lunch will be provided at the fort. Besides, environmental trekking, cycling, adventure sports, parasailing, hot air balloon, lattern flying, kiting, tug of war, bullock cart race and stargazing programmes will also be held. During Utsav, craft bazaar of regional crafts and handloom will be put up. Colourful cultural programmes of song and music will also be held in the evening.

Secretary to CM and Tourism Shri Hari Ranjan Rao, OSD Shri Komal Singh and officers of Tourism Department attended the meeting.
