Tribal talents shine thanks to government help and facilities

Bhopal: Jabalpur’s Santosh Kumar and Mandla’s Gita Tekam are tribal students who have achieved spectacular success in IIT/JEE (Mains). With them, 133 other tribal students have also cracked this prestigious competitive exam in the first attempt. More significantly, these students have secured more marks than cut-off prescribed for tribal students. For them, 44 cut-off marks are prescribed against which most of these 135 students have secured over 75 or more marks. All these students are from schools of Tribal Welfare Department. Most of these schools are situated in remote areas. It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has sanctioned Rs. 5 thousand each for these students as incentive.

After tracking these successful students in districts, special coaching classes are being held for them for ensuing JEE (Advance) exam. Experts are imparting them special coaching from May 1 to 22.

Success of these tribal students has proved that light of education is spreading in backward, tribal and remote areas of Madhya Pradesh. Children there wish to make it in life by pursuing education. The government is providing them facilities and help accordingly, due to which their talents are shining.

Madhya Pradesh government has adopted several innovations and experiments at various levels for increasing representation of tribal students in IIT/JEE (Mains) admission test. Strict norms have been prescribed for selection of guest teachers for these students. Their teaching and performance are constantly monitored. Labs of physics, biology and botany have been set up in all higher secondary schools and regular practicals are being made there so that students get interested in science and its principles.

Apart from books for Board exam, high quality reference and practice books have also been made available to them. Libraries in higher secondary schools have been strengthened. Library cards have been issued so that students can avail benefit of books in libraries. Special reading material has also been provided to them. Coaching and practice has been made available to them at National Coaching Institute for other tests of FITJe, Fortune. Efforts at district level were constantly reviewed at state level. A number of innovations were encouraged in districts including “Navratna” and “Gyanarjan” projects in Mandla, “Akanksha” project in Dindori, “Prayas” in Anuppur district and “Step” project in Jhabua district. Collectors provided coaching facilities to selected students in prestigious coaching instituted.
